Ha, so my brother is finally watching Mad Men and I’m keeping pace with him through another rewatch so we can talk about it.

In S2 E1, Sally mentions wanting to watch Shirley Temple’s Storybook. I hadn’t heard of it so I looked it up. The top rated episode is called Dick Whittington and his Cat, a name very close to Don’s true identity. Turns out in reading the plot, it’s the arc of Don’s character through the show.

I’m sure some scholar somewhere has written about this and woven it in with other depictions of rags-to-riches deception for the cause of success, but the fairy tale even has the main character considering going awol from an assigned post.

I miss writing critical theory and essays.
